Parent Engagement Plan

Archuleta Parent Engagement Plan SY 2025-26

Parent Engagement

Archuleta Elementary values the contributions that families make in our school community.  We believe that a strong partnership between school and families will foster a learning environment in which all students can thrive.  This parent engagement plan outlines the steps we will take during the 2025-2026 to ensure active engagement of families in our school community.

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are welcome at Archuleta.  We will have various events during the school year, for example our book fair, in which we will actively solicit parent participation.  Additionally, parents are welcome to volunteer in their students’ classrooms.  If a parent is interested in volunteering in a classroom, this can be scheduled directly with the teacher.  Teachers will schedule volunteers at the time that each individual teacher finds most helpful for their particular classroom.  Parent volunteers will also need to complete the DPS Volunteer background check (please contact the main office for information on how to complete this background check).

Community Events

We will have several evening community events during the school year, including some cultural celebrations.  We encourage all families to join us on these nights!  Community events will be posted on the calendar on our school website.  Flyers and reminders will be sent home prior to the events.  We will also have at least one opportunity each semester for parents to attend an activity with your student(s) during the regular school day.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

Archuleta is actively seeking more participation in our PTO for the 2025-26 school year.  PTO meetings will be held monthly beginning in October.  PTO activities could include school events, fundraisers, and teacher appreciation activities.  Irene Hernandez, Dean of Culture, and Eduardo Hernandez, Assistant Principal, will lead PTO activities.

Collaborative School Committee (CSC)

Archuleta’s Collaborative School Committee will include parents who represent the student population at our school.  This committee will meet at least quarterly to discuss and make recommendations around budget and staffing, school strategic planning, and parent engagement.  CSC meetings are open to the public.  Meeting dates and agenda items will be posted on our school website in advance of each meeting.

Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)

Archuleta is a district-run Multilingual Education Program (MLE) school.  Each MLE school has a Multilingual Education Parent Advisory Committee (MLE PAC). The PAC is open to all families of students in an MLE program. It provides an opportunity to increase communication between the school and families. Archuleta will have two PAC meetings per year in order to share information and receive parent feedback.

Title 1 Meeting

Archuleta will have one Title 1 meeting per year, typically in the form of Coffee with the Principal.  At this meeting, we will share Title 1 information, discuss student achievement data, review UIP major improvement strategies, and share information about parent engagement activities and school events.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Archuleta will have parent teacher conferences during the school year to share information with families about how their child is doing in class.  These could consist of conferences scheduled for all students in the fall, or meetings that happen throughout the year as needed.  Any parent who needs additional information or updates about how their child is doing should feel free to contact their student’s teacher at any time during the school year.

Home Visits

Archuleta does participate in the DPS Home Visit Program.  Not all teachers are required to do home visits as these occur outside of normal work hours.  However, we have several teachers and paraprofessionals who routinely do home visits to strengthen the connection between home and school.

Communication

We send monthly newsletters home to families that consist of important information regarding academics and school activities.  We also share updates regularly through Thrillshare, our school communication platform.  Information shared through Thrillshare will come directly to parents’ email and/or text messaging.
